Erdogan urges emphasis on high-tech exports at Türkiye Innovation Week

During the Türkiye Innovation Week (TIW) event, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan highlighted Türkiye’s continued positive trajectory despite global challenges. He shared insights on the importance of focusing on high-tech product exports as the country moves into the new century. The event, which included the InovaLig Award Ceremony, was organized by the Türkiye Exporters Assembly (TIM) and held at the Istanbul Halic Congress Center.

President Erdogan noted that Türkiye has been the third-fastest-growing exporter among OECD countries over the past 20 years. He provided an update on export figures, revealing that in October, exports increased by 7.4% compared to the previous year, reaching $22.9 billion, marking the highest October export value. Additionally, Türkiye’s total exports for the last 12 months, as of October, reached $254.8 billion. Erdogan also highlighted a $7.3 billion improvement in the annual current account deficit in just two months, emphasizing the country’s ongoing economic growth. He stressed the importance of focusing on value-added products and innovative efforts to increase the quality of exports, underscoring that the path to success lies in diversifying and enhancing Türkiye’s export range, particularly through high-tech products.

At the TIW InovaLig Award Ceremony, Trade Minister Prof. Dr. Ömer Bolat discussed the global transformation driven by new-generation technologies and software. He emphasized Türkiye’s push to become a global leader in smart technologies and defense industries, with particular attention to sectors like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, smart cities, and unmanned aerial vehicles. Minister Bolat noted that Türkiye is focused on supporting high-tech production to stay competitive in an era where technologies like AI and robotics are becoming increasingly important.

TIM President Mustafa Gültepe also spoke at the event, highlighting Türkiye’s significant progress in international trade over the last two decades. He reinforced that TIM will continue to support Türkiye’s growth through production, investment, and innovation. Gültepe emphasized the importance of events like TIW and the InovaLig Awards in fostering the younger generation’s involvement in trade and innovation. He concluded with the goal of positioning Türkiye among the top 10 countries in international trade with the participation of the youth.
