Türkiye removes X ad ban

After around 10 months, X appoints representative in Türkiye

Türkiye has removed its advertising ban on X after the social media giant appointed a representative in the country.

After X, formerly Twitter, fulfilled its obligation to designate and notify a representative in Türkiye, the ban was removed, the country’s Official Gazette said Friday.

In 2021, Türkiye implemented a new social media law under which social media platforms accessed over a million times per day are required to appoint local representatives.

If they failed to do so, they were liable for various penalties, including monetary fines, advertising bans, and bandwidth reductions.

Türkiye imposed advertising bans on X after the social media giant failed to appoint local representatives in Türkiye in July 2023.
