‘Russia has always condemned all manifestations of violence during political struggles, and we strongly condemn this as well’ says Kremlin
Russia strongly condemned the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump on Sunday. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov highlighted the historical instances of violence within the US political system, noting that US presidents have been injured and even assassinated multiple times.
Trump was shot in the right ear but survived the fatal shooting. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) identified Thomas Matthew Crooks as the suspected shooter. The Secret Service reported that the shooter fired multiple shots from an elevated position outside the venue, resulting in the death of one spectator and critically injuring two others.
The incident occurred just days before Trump was to be nominated as the Republican presidential candidate for the 2024 election. Peskov argued that the current US administration tends to resolve issues through force, including economic pressure, sanctions, and military power. He emphasized that violence is now being directed inward within the country.
Peskov clarified that Russia does not believe the current administration orchestrated the assassination attempt but claimed that the political climate it created fueled such violence. He condemned all manifestations of violence during political struggles, expressed condolences to the victims’ families, and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
